On Saturday evening, a group of youths gathered near the memorial benches on Prestbury Playing Fields. Having been dispersed by local police, they left behind a large amount of litter and broken glass. They also vandalised a car parking sign, moved a contractor’s portaloo to a precarious position, and allegedly tried to uproot and set fire to memorial benches.
This anti-social behaviour is clearly unacceptable. Any evidence as to the identity of the perpetrators should be provided to the Parish Council via the contact form on our website.
Playing field users are reminded that this location is covered by a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which prohibits the consumption of alcohol there.
A person who fails, without reasonable excuse, to comply with the PSPO will be committing an offence and will be liable to pay a fine not exceeding level two on the standard scale (£500), or a fixed penalty notice of a maximum of £100.
According to the incident report, the Police were called at 8.27pm and officers attended at 8.35pm. Upon Police arrival all the teenagers ran off from Police. There is no reported contact with officers speaking to the teenagers.
The Police commented that they can see from social media pictures the mess that was left behind by the group, adding that It is a shame that they were not respectful of the community facilities that the Parish Council has provided.
The Parish Council is very grateful to those playing field users who cleared up the mess early on Sunday morning, and to the local police for their fast response to the incident.
